Paula Ospina : Interior / Exterior

El mundo que nos toca vivir es caótico e hiper acelerado. Nuestra relación con la imagen se ve constantemente alterada, y lo real y lo efímero adquieren nuevos sentidos. En este escenario actual, una parte de la fotografía, conciente de este fenómeno, busca reflejar la experiencia individual inserta en este nuevo orden mundial.

En este contexto, el trabajo de la fotógrafa colombiana Paula Ospina pone en circulación imágenes que sean capaces de trasmitir su propia experiencia. Una experiencia basada en las dimensiones más elevadas de nuestra interioridad profunda, aquellas mismas de las que se han ocupado las tradiciones espirituales más antiguas y que la artista lleva años interiorizando. Es en este camino donde, comienza a experimentar una profunda conexión con el paisaje natural. Y la toma de una conciencia ecológica, no tarda en llegar.

Sus imágenes quieren ser transmisores de esta experiencia a ojos de quien las observa. Su trabajo profundiza en la capacidad de una imagen para extraernos de la vorágine del mundo actual y trasladarnos a un lugar de quietud y silencio, donde también lograr transmitir la belleza, la paz y la infinitud del paisaje natural. En sus series fotográficas, la naturaleza se impone como aquel lugar donde poder conectarnos con lo esencial.

Según palabras de la artista, su intención es vivir los sitios visitados; observarlos, sentirlos, olerlos. Absorber esos lugares para que la foto no sea solamente registro de un momento en particular, sino mas bien sea un reflejo de la inmensidad de lo vivido. Su experiencia nace desde lo más personal, que es sensible y reflexiva, e intenta ahondar en la percepción de la naturaleza y el valor que tenemos por ella.

La fotografía es el medio mas capaz de captar un sinfín de impresiones de distintos significados posibles y el paisaje parece ser un perfecto exponente del potencial poético de la imagen fotográfica. Sin duda, la fotografía de paisajes es un género de expresión íntima en manos del artista y es el potencial transformador y transportador de sentidos lo que lleva a la artista a explorarla. Sus imágenes no pretenden sencillamente trasladar al espectador al espacio representado, sino que espera poder provocar una sensible reflexión hacia la naturaleza, hacia el poder de los cambios medioambientales, así como sobre el uso que la gente hace de ella. Los paisajes naturales que Paula Ospina fotografía son una extensión de su personalidad, y poéticamente van tejiendo puentes entre diversas dualidades, tales como, el adentro y el afuera, lo espiritual y lo material, el orden y al caos, la inmensidad y la pequeñez, lo interior y lo exterior.

Esta sensibilidad por el paisaje ha llevado a la artista a indagar cada vez más acerca del proceso de elección del encuadre capturado. Su responsabilidad como artista radica en producir imágenes que funcionen como pausas en medio del caos contemporáneo. En este sentido, es que cobra relevancia la técnica utilizada y el uso de la cámara y el proceso analógico exige también a la artista, mesura a la hora de disparar.
El paisaje en Paula Ospina deja de lado el artificio y la recreación, buscando trabajar la naturaleza en términos minimalistas, es decir, reduciendo hasta lo esencial y despojándola de elementos sobrantes.

Para el fotógrafo austríaco Ernst Haas, el artista expresa a través de su trabajo artístico la suma de una red indefinible de sentimiento, conocimiento y experiencia. El trabajo de Paula Ospina transita firme en esta dirección.

The world we live in is chaotic and hyper accelerated. Our relationship with images is being constantly altered: the real and the ephemeral acquire new meanings. In this present day scenario, a part of photography, conscious of this phenomenon, seeks to reflect individual experience within this new world order.

In this context, the work of Colombian photographer Paula Ospinan puts images in circulation that are capable of transmitting her own experience. An experience based on seeking a deep understanding of human consciousness, as has been expounded thoroughly by ancient spiritual traditions which the artist has been practicing and learning from for some years. It is along this path where she also begins to establish a profound connection to nature from which an ecological (as in: the relationships between the air, land, water, animals, plants, etc) awareness eventually arises.

Her images want to transmit these experiences to the viewer who observes them. Her work delves deeply in the ability that an image has to draw us out of the vortex of mundane living and take us into a place of quietude and silence, where we may also experience beauty, peace and the immensity of a natural landscape. In her photographic series, nature is presented as a place where we may connect with the essential.

As stated by the artist her intention is to fully live the places visited, observe, feel and smell them. Absorbing those places so that the photo is not just a moment captured but also a reflection of the depth of her living. Her experience comes from the most personal, which is sensitive and reflective, and seeks to deepen the perception of nature and the value we have for it.

Photography is the medium most capable of capturing a multitude of views of different possible meanings and the landscape seems to be a perfect example of the poetic potential of the photographic image. Undoubtedly, landscape photography is a genre of intimate expression in the hands of the artist and it is the transformative potential and conveyor of meaning which leads the artist to explore it. Her images are not meant to simply move the viewer into the space represented, but also to provoke a reflection about nature, about the power of environmental change and about the use people make of it. The natural landscapes Paula Ospina photographs are an extension of her personality, and poetically weave bridges between various dualities, such as the inside and the outside, the spiritual and material, order and chaos, the vastness and smallness, inside and outside.

This sensitivity to landscapes has led the artist to inquire more about the process of choosing the image that is finally framed. Her responsibility as an artist lies in producing images that function as pauses in the midst of contemporary chaos. In this sense, the technique she uses becomes important as the use of analog cameras and processes require the artist more moderation when shooting.

The landscape in Paula Ospina omits the artifice and recreation, looking to explore nature in minimalist terms by reducing it to the essential and stripping it of excess elements.

For the Austrian photographer Ernst Haas, the artist must express the summation of his feeling, knowing and believing through the unity of his life and work. Paula Ospina's work moves firmly in this direction.
